Broadcasting Brain: The blogosphere is as real as the public in public opinon

I find his article interesting (I went and read the source after reading yours). He makes some good points, but doesn't point out an obvious contradiction - the fact that he's paying so much attention to what I would consider "blogosphere-induced" fluff is part of the problem. A lot of the drama and obvious attention-grabbing stories just scream for anyone with integrity to ignore. The first step to making the community better is to not give the tabloid-type attention grabbing yet *more* attention or energy...not by screaming at it, which just feeds the drama and superficial "controversy." I read a lot of the stuff he's irate about, and I think "who cares?" in the same way I think "who cares?" in the supermarket line where the tabloids scream at me to care about Brangelina or Jennifer Aniston's dinner with...whoever.

Sounds goodie-goodie maybe, but a lot of problems are best tackled by refusing to grant them a hearing.

Perhaps there's a lot of drama there, but I think he had a valid point about the Blogging With Integrity badges and reaction of the other bloggers. It doesn't mean that the female blogger in question would need to be ostracized by her peers or community, but silence would seem to indicate a lack of will to live by the standards implied in the underlying code of conduct.

Oh, agreed - but the "Blogging with Integrity" folks weren't the ones I meant! And they weren't silent...instead they came out with a wishy washy statement, which isn't the same thing at all. I didn't mean to disparage his post, I just think sometimes people inadvertantly fuel phenomena simply by reacting to them...it takes more self-discipline to be silent about it, and try to populate the blogosphere with more intelligent discourse. Those who could contribute a lot sometimes seem to think they need to solve the problem by fighting it directly, and I guess I disagree that that is always the best approach.

I see what you're saying now. I see your point but I can understand some frustration over the "wishy washy" statement as well.

yeah, absolutely! I totally sympathized with the frustration, both yours and his...I feel the same way a lot myself
